LINDSAY FERGUSON

Rating: NN

Let’s start with the good news. If you miss Lindsay Ferguson’s CMW gigs this weekend, there’s a good chance she’ll be on the folk festival circuit this summer. She’s nailed the confident singer/songwriter thing with a booming voice that’s sure to win over at least a few fans.

But Ferguson’s songs are, well, obnoxious. Wine Song has a horrendous Jamaican vibe that sounds like an over-the-top kids’ tune, while the wah-wah pedal and heavy vocal reverb on No Epitome are misguided, to say the least.

Ferguson is all over the place, and that’s not a good thing in her case. If she can keep the confidence and overhaul the songwriting she might be able to headline a folk fest one day rather than being relegated to the third stage.

Lindsay Ferguson plays the Savannah Room Friday (March 7) as part of CMW.
