Little Boots

Rating: NN

Stripping away the space disco buildup that made single Stuck On Repeat a genre-bending success, Little Boots impersonates Alison Goldfrapp on this new EP but falls a bit flat. Despite unique moments, Illuminations comes across as an attempt at MTV-generation pandering rather than a development of Little Boots’s sound. Corny, innocuous lyrics on Not Now and Love Kills are tailor-made for shows like The Hills.

That said, the production is great, particularly on lead single New In Town and a truncated version of Stuck On Repeat. Synth stabs, catchy hooks and spacey composition help bring the EP together, but her vocal talent seems largely squandered on such a poppy project.
