Little Foot Long Foot

Rating: NNN

Add another band to the pile of hard-rockin’ blues punk duos, this one from Toronto.

[rssbreak]

Before you dismiss them as another White Stripes clone, replace Jack White’s growl with a voice closer to the Gossip’s Beth Ditto and the garage rock references with chunkier classic rock riffage.

They’ve got their formula honed to a sharp point and cram in a lot of hooks, but at times they sound like they’re trying a little too hard to prove they’re unpretentious. Sorry, guys, complaining that the hipster set doesn’t take you seriously because you’re not weird enough, slamming “fake cowboys” and boasting about your love of classic rock is just as cheeseball as those songs about “robot ponies” that you’re positioning yourself against.

Nevertheless, it’s a fun album that will sound good over a case of beer on a humid summer day, and there’s always a need for a few of those in your collection.

Top track: Thank You

Little Foot Long Foot rock out tonight (Thursday, May 28) at the Rivoli.
