LIVE COUNTRY MUSIC

Rating: NN

Some artists play country music, while others, like Live Country Music, choose to play with it. After city boys Matt Barber, Doug Paisley, Chuck Erlichman and the Hidden Cameras’ Paul Matthew played a few Tranzac gigs singing George Jones and Hank Williams numbers, they must’ve figured they had the whole Southern drawl and rural vernacular thing down well enough to start writing and recording ‘country’ tunes of their own. And while they might believe their synth-sweetened twang will warm the hearts of hardcore honky-tonkers, LCM’s sappy Supertramp- and Billy Joel-inspired moves on Long Hard Season are more likely to get their asses kicked any place outside of a Santa Cruz party. More research and development — perhaps even a little chicken wire — may prevent some nasty bruising in the future. LCM launch their new disc at the Canadian Corps Hall Saturday (September 16).
