London EleKtricity Billion Dollar Gravy (Hospital) Rating: NNNN Rating: NNNN

This second album by London Elektricity (aka Tony Colman) presents a new direction in drum ‘n’ bass. The influence of house music has been pollinating d ‘n’ b for some time now, which for years had gone in the other direction, drawing more from techno. Billion Dollar Gravy’s live drums and vocals give the album the warmth of deep house, but it maintains that trademark double-time breakbeat. Appearances by house legend Robert Owens make the connection even clearer, laying his silky voice on two of the album’s most memorable tracks, Different Drum and My Dreams. Even if you have no interest in d ‘n’ b, this is worth checking out.
