LOREENA McKENNITT

Rating: NNN

Playing music in an old Spanish fortress is pretty damn cool, so Loreena McKennitt immediately gets high marks for recording her third live effort in the Palace of Charles V at the Alhambra. Musically, this disc is pretty impressive as well.

She made this two-disc collection in September 2006 during her tour supporting her last effort, An Ancient Muse. The disc is beautifully recorded every harp note and Uilleann pipe sounds crystal clear. It’s almost like you’re actually there. While many of the tracks are from An Ancient Muse, she does throw in a good number of older tunes as well. As a bonus, it comes with a DVD of the set, recorded in HD. Pop that in to really can be there.
