Lou Reed The Raven (Warner) Rating: NN Rating: NN
On paper at least, the concept of the scary Lou Reed musically reworking the horror business of Edgar Allan Poe seemed like a good idea. There are worse ways of handling a creative dry spell. But while the Poe-inspired rock tunes interspersed with dramatic recitations by celebs like Willem Dafoe and Steve Buscemi may have come together magnificently onstage, they make for an annoyingly disjointed and boring album. The condensed single-disc "highlights" version of The Raven is enough of a chore to get through, but gluttons for punishment will want to wait a couple of weeks for the full two-disc edition, which adds 15 more dull tracks to this gruelling ordeal.
