Low Millions

Rating: NNN

Even though his 1998 solo debut fell flat, Montreal’s Adam (son of Leonard) Cohen is back to conquer the anglo market with a hotshot band and some super-sexy lyrics. If Bret Easton Ellis had set American Psycho in 2004, Patrick Bateman wouldn’t be seductively reclining on his leather sofa jamming Phil Collins, he’d be on this record. Sample lyric: “Hotter than a Puerto Rican mama / Suckin’ on ice in a sauna.” Yup, that’s some slick shit. Even with all the sleaze of a coked-up Bono, though, Cohen is often overshadowed by the record’s glossy, Eno-esque production and his band’s chops. Still, fans of both U2 and cocaine should find plenty to dig into. Low Millions play the Mod Club Tuesday (October 26).
