LUKE SLATER

Rating: NN

You have to respect Luke Slater for trying something new. Alright On Top is a drastic departure from the dark, hard-edged techno he’s known for. Here, Slater’s made a vocal album, borrowing Ricky Barrow from the band Aloof to do the singing in an attempt at a techno version of a Spiritualized sort of junk blues freakout. Unfortunately, Barrow comes off as a wimpy Trent Reznor, and the electro bits end up sounding like bad synth pop… without catchy melodies.
