Sequels aren’t just for movies, as Lovett’s 10th studio record proves. On It’s Not Big It’s Large, the legendary country artist looks back 18 years to when he released Lyle Lovett And His Large Band, a rollicking CD/DVD set of swing, jazz and country.
His latest endeavour follows that route more closely than previous records — the lead track is a fiery 40s-style swing tune, while two songs later he tackles straight-up country. With other tracks tackling gospel, blues and folk, this is easily one of Lovett’s more diverse discs to date.
