MADELEINE PEYROUX

If you’re in need of the perfect winter album, look no further than Madeleine Peyroux’s latest. The soft-voiced jazz stylist once again puts her delicate touch on a handful of covers, including two Anjani Thomas/Leonard Cohen-penned tunes and Tom Waits’s (Looking For) The Heart Of Saturday Night. There are also four Peyroux originals, but the two best tracks are Joni Mitchell’s River (featuring k.d. lang) and Serge Gainsbourg’s La Javanaise. Every track is treated to Peyroux’s smouldering Billie Holiday-meets-Diana Krall delivery, and they’re all really relaxed, appropriate for a low-lighting makeout session.

Peyroux plays Wednesday (October 18) at Danforth Music Hall.
