Marcy Playground

Rating: NN

The biggest surprise, beyond the fact that Marcy Playground are still touring and releasing records 12 years after scoring their only major hit, is that Minnesota-born John Wozniak, the band’s only continuous member, now calls Queen and Beaconsfield home.

More predictable is that Leaving Wonderland is another weak, derivative offering. Originally planned as a solo record, the disc starts with Blackbird, which, despite Woz’s annoyingly strained vocals, sounds like it was penned by Jeff Martin in 1994. Devil Woman explores folkie classic rock, while Daniel Powter collab Gin And Money is only notable for how hard it rips off Radiohead’s Exit Music (For A Film).
