Mariah Carey co-wrote every song on this album, which is supposed to be her most personal and revealing work to date. Unfortunately, that's the whole problem here. Mariah's still got quite the lungs, but she's not much of a lyricist, is apparently duller than any of us suspected and doesn't have any knack for writing a decent vocal hook for herself. The producers carry the album, highlights being the handful of Neptunes productions and the lone Kanye West track, although some of the Jermaine Dupri beats are decent as well. If she'd hooked up with some real songwriters, there might've been an okay album here. Maybe next time.
