Mary Timony

Rating: NNNN

The second solo release from former Helium frontwoman (and perennial indie rock wet dream girl) Mary Timony continues her project of brooding Renaissance-Faire-inflected semi-prog rock, first seen back on Helium’s The Magic City album. Sparklehorse’s Mark Linkous is onboard as producer and multi-instrumentalist, but you wouldn’t know it. The Golden Dove is 100 per cent Timony, from the weirdly gothic fairy-tale-inspired lyrics to the clinical distance evoked by her flat, measured alto, which is equal parts Dido and Stereolab’s Laetitia Sadier. Jagged jaunts through mythic landscapes that you won’t find anywhere else.
