Masia One

Rating: NNNN

Masia One’s Pulau is a valuable cross-cultural audio document.

From Head In The Clouds, a love song that has Zaki Ibrahim and Masia daydreaming about a wanted man being with another woman, to Grinder, the grimy broken-beat banger on disc two (The Islands), her magnum opus is regal.

DJ Vadim delivers the visionary Montreal In The Fall, featuring the soothing vocals of Jessica Kaya, evoking memories of a Digable Planets ditty. The concepts are about travel, friendships and family, love/hate relationships and killing politricks inspired by journeys to Jamaica, Asia and across Canada.

Her vision is focused and her taste in beats refined, but occasionally all the elements fail to synchronize.
