Poor Matt Dusk. Ten years ago, this Canadian crooner might have struck it rich. Unfortunately, his career had to run parallel with another young, good-looking and more talented Canadian crooner, Michael Bublé. So while Bublé's selling millions of records, Dusk is shilling himself on reality TV and fighting an uphill battle to become the new Frank Sinatra. This competition for crooning supremacy has forced him to take some interesting risks on his new album, Back In Town. Curiously, it kicks off with a Ricky Martin-meets-the-50s swing number, and follows up with All About Me, a song more suited to the Backstreet Boys. The Torontonian eventually moves back into more comfortable territory, but even his soothing croon can't save this disc from mediocrity.
Matt Dusk swings by the Mod Club Wednesday (July 26).
