McLusky McLusky Do Dallas (Too Pure/Beggars) Rating: NNN Rating: NNN

Just the sight of the Steve Albini production credit was enough to put me off McLusky Do Dallas when it came out a few months back. At the insistence of Wire’s Colin Newman, who swore by McLusky’s ruthless performances, I went back to it and discovered the Brit bad-asses’ snarling, thrashing and thumping still sounded like Feedtime-lite. It was only after finally getting a copy of McLusky’s hard-to-find My Pain And Sadness Is More Sad And Painful Than Yours debut — prior to Albini’s studio meddling — that their roughneck bluster and all the subsequent praise began to make sense. Fortunately for everyone, Beggars Group will be re-releasing the disc in the new year. For now, check out McLusky for free at the Horseshoe Monday (November 11).
