Michelle Rasky

Rating: NNN

We love spring. The warm breezes make you want to head out to the nearest patio, you’re horny as hell and you basically forget about everything except, well, partying and knocking boots. Michelle Rasky’ s latest is full of light-hearted, uplifting melodies that define the season. Her influences range from Billie Holiday to Ani DiFranco to Stevie Wonder, and they come through on this disc. She’s like Norah Jones except not so self-conscious. It’s pure jazz-pop without the schmaltzy trappings, and if you’re not careful your mom will five-finger it, leaving you high and dry. Check out Michelle Rasky’s CD release party at Hugh’s Room tonight (Thursday, May 27).
