Millionaire

Millionaire Outside The Simian Flock (PIAS/Beggars Group) Rating: Nnnn Rating: NNNN

Up until a few days ago, if you’d said “Belgium” I would have said “chocolate.” Not any more. Now it’s Millionaire. Their Outside The Simian Flock disc presents a glorious mix of smart punk-rocking groovy riffs and crazy dance rhythms. A wide range of comparisons to the Pixies, Kyuss, Devo and the Neptunes only hints at what’s going on here. It’s kind of like Beck before Odelay, and Billy Corgan without the pretension. Think of Millionaire’s Outside The Simian Flock as Captain Beefheart goes disco.

Millionaire open the sold-out Queens of the Stone Age show at the Kool Haus September 29.
