Considering all the love folks like Blockhead and Diplo poured into their solo instrumental LPs, and the fact that the number of scratch innovators is on the rise, the latest from Beastie Boys resident DJ Mix Master Mike sounds a bit tossed off. It's a 13-song record stuffed with sampled organs, strings, video games, game shows, cartoons, Latin vocals, instructional records and old disaster movie sounds dropped over frantic breaks, with more cutting and juggling than a homicidal clown. Nothing's totally wack about Bangzilla, but it does sound like it was done in one session. Little more than some dope background music for your next gangsta party.
Mike hits the ACC with the Beasties Monday (November 8) .
