From the Smiths to Boards of Canada, BBC sessions consistently deliver ace collections of tunes from equally ace British bands. Even if you’re not a big fan of Mogwai’s post-rock noise, this compilation just might be the best thing these moody Scots have ever put out. Culled from seven years of BBC radio recordings, this 10-track set is definitive Mogwai. The stripped-down style of the sessions eliminates much of the self-indulgence that made some of the band’s studio output sound a tad overfed, and with the exception of the bloated 18-minute Like Herod, most of this plays out like a greatest-hits record.
