Yacht Rock regular Christopher Cross could’ve used Molly Johnson on his side back in the glory days, since everything she touches seems to turn to smo-o-o-oth. This even applies to her oddly breezy cover of Springsteen’s mournful Streets Of Philadelphia, which appears here alongside similarly smooth covers of tunes by Marc Jordan, Prince and the Gershwins, and a handful of originals suited to Johnson’s satiny delivery and laid-back backing band. Truthfully, the EZ Rock swish of Messin’ Around is pretty standard for a Johnson disc, but after three albums you can’t help but wish she’d add some more texture, variety and dynamics.
