MONTELL JORDAN

MONTELL JORDAN Life After Def (KOCH) Rating: NN

Rating: NN

Montell Jordan – the Nate Dogg for yuppies who don’t smoke weed – is back. Poor Montell seems to be flying pretty low on the radar with this one. The album has a frustrated feel to it: every track’s produced by the serviceable Jorda Black, Montell’s face in the cover shot has a sour expression and the title’s a melancholic reference to being dropped by Def Jam. Since he’s credited as a writer on every tune, Montell seems to be way more hands-on than most nu-generation R&B types, but there’s nothing here like his This Is How We Do It, which is probably in the top five irritatingly hilarious jams of all time, although I’m Going Krazy (Straight Bananas) comes close.
