Montreal’s minimal techno community get recognized here by Germany’s Force Inc. with this compilation of quirky but strangely funky techno. Opening with the aptly named Severed Finger Samba by rising star Akufen, the album establishes a program of experimentation, but with a healthy respect for its house roots. Other highlights include an abstractly soulful track by Crackhaus, whose contribution isn’t nearly as obnoxious as their name would suggest. Toronto expat Mike Shannon also shines here in the rough-edged, swaggering shuffle of Miser. Definitely worth checking.
