Moonraker Radiowave Transmission (MapleMusic) Rating: NNN
It seems like a while since anything came out of Montreal that isn't either straight-ahead cock rock or some quirky mix of eclecticisms. Enter Moonraker with their debut disc of well-crafted pop rock. De Henglish eez not hallways so good, but there's an impressive range of sonic nods here, from the retro Electrolove and the acoustic-tinged Upon Summerhill to the Pink Floydian Bleeding Words. Faces of Oasis, the Beatles, Radiohead and some of the peg-panted Britpoppers peer out beneath Mathieu Joly's easy-on-the-ears vocals and Christian Braie's adroit guitars. It's got that distinctly Canadian "clean-cut rock you can take home to your mom" vibe, but nice nonetheless. Moonraker check into the Horseshoe Monday (December 8).
