Morrissey Under The Influence (DMC) Rating: NNN

Rating: NNN

A person I once knew was convinced that given someone’s mixed tape, she could give you an accurate personality profile of the compiler. As ludicrous as that sounds, I’ve found that the songs a musician finds intriguing can sometimes offer revealing insights into the music they make. From the oddball assortment of tracks Morrissey compiled for DMC’s Under The Influence series you get a peek at his personal listening peculiarities, some of which you may have guessed (Klaus Nomi, Ludus, Sparks, Diana Dors) and others that may be surprising (Sundown Playboys, Charlie Feathers, Ramones). But it’s his fannish remarks about his connections to the artists involved that prove most informative and entertaining. If the Mozzer hadn’t learned to loathe music critics, he might have made a good one.
