Paris/Minneapolis duo Motor strive to connect the raw, scary energy of industrial with the acid-disco attack of techno, which sounds daring to those who haven't been paying attention to underground dance music over the past few years and are also unaware of the early days of house and techno. Press-release hyperbole aside, this is neither as techno nor as industrial as their description suggests, but it is raw, dirty, aggressive and noisy. The best moments come when they get weird and trippy, whereas when they get more driving and clubby, the sound is a little too close to trance, and not the good kind. Still, it's good music for dancing around with a scowl on your face.
Motor perform at State Theatre Friday (September 15).
