Mouse on Mars fans who feared that the band was going too far toward pop will be relieved to know that this newest offering runs in the opposite direction. This time there are no vocals, very few melodies, a hell of a lot of distortion and a fair amount of computer-free jazz chaos. A lot's going on, much of it hard to process on a casual listen. The sheets of noise and absence of hooks hide some interesting ideas if you have the patience to listen for them. Unfortunately, some if it would probably be better described as wanking, even if it is experimental wanking. You might want to hold out for the Mark E. Smith collaboration they're supposedly working on.
