Mudhoney Since We've Become Translucent (Sub Pop) Rating: NNNN Rating: NNNN
Who would've guessed that Mudhoney -- the group that ought to have been the Seattle scene's first grunge rock star sellouts -- would be the last band standing. Despite a slight burst of the old punk rock ardour on Tomorrow Hit Today, it's mostly been downhill since their explosive debut single, Touch Me, I'm Sick. But believe it or not, Since We've Become Translucent doesn't suck! New bassist Guy Madison (ex-Lubricated Goat) and the addition of a horn section -- more like Know Your Product-era Saints than the Stooges -- seem to have revitalized the group. Singer Mark Arm is snarling like he hasn't in years. In fact, the whole attitude is aggressive and mean-spirited, which is just about all you could hope for from Mudhoney.
