MUGGS Dust (ANTI/Epitaph) Rating: Nn Rating: NN
Cypress Hill beatmaker DJ Muggs is sharp enough to know that making instrumental hiphop is no way to pay the bills. So he’s invited a few singing friends over — Greg Dulli, Everlast, Amy Trujillo and Josh Todd each add some suitably moody vocals to the mix — and he wound up with a Portishead-style downtempo triphop album. The only problem is that it’s now 2003. It could be that Muggs has just been a little too deep in the hiphop game to realize that the triphop sailed and sank years ago, and the ANTI crew is likely still too giddy about signing Nick Cave to care.
