For those who delight in the exotic quirkiness of Björk but find her experiments a bit too extreme, there's always been Múm offering a chilled Icelandic alternative. The departure of Kristín Anna Valtysdóttir and the subsequent expansion of the lineup to the current seven-piece ensemble appears to have brought about some changes in the Múm sound.
The oddly named Go Go Smear The Poison Ivy disc is considerably less wallpapery than previous minimalist dabblings. The electro werping and klanging have moved well into the foreground to playfully mingle with the crew's eccentric vocalizations. Through it all they maintain a charmingly chiming and cheery vibe that's probably the closest humans can get to making elf music.
