Museum Pieces

Rating: NNNN

The gently rolling piano-based sound of the songs on Museum Pieces’ Philadelphia album is so softly unobtrusive, it’s easy to relegate it to the background, but the conspiratorial whispering of Tyler Messick (think of Rufus Wainwright auditioning for Iron & Wine) draws you into his world of quaint country homes, searching for arrowheads on river banks and stick-chasing Labradors. The wonderfully tuneful songs are neatly arranged and exceptionally well crafted, with Smog-like detail, even if Messick does have a tendency to stretch for a rhyme now and again. In fact, everything is so tastefully understated, you’d never guess Museum Pieces are from Halifax.

Check out Museum Pieces at Holy Joe’s Saturday (June 10) at 1 am.
