The unexpected turn toward more conventional constructs on Matt Valentine and Erika Elder's Ecstatic Peace! debut, Green Blues, was a chilling indication that their hookup with Thurston Moore's boutique label may have drained all the freakishness out of their folk.
Happily, MV & EE appear to be back on their wayward track for Gettin' Gone. It isn't nearly as fur-flyingly far-out as they're capable of going, but what's more important is that, despite the goofy presence of J Mascis bashing away on drums, they've managed to regain some of ye olde MV & EE mystique with a much looser approach and a few genuinely haunting moments.
