Though Christian punks MXPX have never really progressed musically over 13 years, their melodic pop-punk has gained them a loyal following. Panic is another example of the band’s “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” strategy. Most of the songs are catchy enough, but it’s frustrating to hear such a well-established band rely so heavily on past influences. Almost every track here is a nod to Bad Religion, the Descendents and Screeching Weasel and doesn’t go much beyond that. Still, MXPX’s saving grace is that they’re unpretentious about what they do – playing inoffensive, catchy songs. Kudos for the longevity.
