What kind of sick fuck wants nearly six hours of nasally Nardwuar interviews? Me, sadly. Two discs of amateur ambushes that "prequel" the Serviette's more pro MuchMusic era, when Vancouver's premier geek punk wasn't as well known, thus subjects/victims are way more put off and stupefied by his tactics. Disc 1's best moments are a PNE clash with Sonic Youth on their disastrous supporting slot for Neil Young. Getting booed every night in stadiums is visible on their faces and Nard only exasperates the situation.
His Kurt and Courtney interviews on Disc 2 are legend. A visibly exhausted (i.e. strung out) Cobain generously entertains all of Nard's pointless queries backstage, moments after playing his last Canadian concert. A 12-minute chat with Courtney a year earlier shows the haggard singer at her most vulnerable and human. Interviews with prime ministers, porn stars and philosophers aside, if you can get me feeling sympathetic for Courtney Love, you've got skills.
