Album reviews Music

NAS

Rating: NNNNN

Illmatic will always be one of the most profound, authentic and influential rap records of all time. And this year the album, produced by Premier, Pete Rock and Q-Tip (among others) turns 10, so Columbia has re-released it with glossy silver liner notes and added vaguely jiggy remixes of Life’s A Bitch, The World Is Yours, One Love and It Ain’t Hard To Tell, and two new tracks produced by Marley Marl and Large Pro. The bonus shit is gratuitous, yes, but it’s on a separate disc, so all my true-school heads can ignore it like they did all of Nas’s other albums.
