Leave it to tastemaking Italian rare groove DJ Nicola Conte to do the club jazz thing right. Structured around a sound-library album concept, Jet Sounds is assembled as a fully functional DJ tool containing 11 dance-floor bombs, with each track modelled after a vintage house-shaker.
There's a bossa nova blast, some sleazy Euro-porn sizzle, a blaxploitation charger, some loungey dubba-dubba-dah, a funky sitar feature... you get the idea. Only unlike similar projects by mixers, Conte doesn't simply loop samples -- he's got real musicians playing songlike structures rather than grooves with a hook. St. Germain, take note.
