NINE BLACK ALPS

Rating: NNN

The latest band to be pegged by the UK press as “most likely to save rock forever,” Nine Black Alps are definitely louder and more aggressive than many of their Britrock counterparts, but that’s really nothing to boast about. They let rip a few good riffs on Everything Is, which serves as a welcome antidote to all the Coldplay-inspired soft schlock clogging the airwaves, but it’s still not dirty or heavy enough to stand up to the wall-shaking onslaught of, say, the Sword or Boris. Comparatively speaking, Nine Black Alps are nothing but a pop band who just happen to hit their distortion pedals more often.

Nine Black Alps cut loose at the El Mocambo Wednesday (April 5).
