NORE

Rating: NNN

Babygrande Noreaga is one of hiphop’s most entertaining (and ignorant) guilty pleasures, and after a short-lived reggaeton phase, he returns to his roots on this star-studded indie label release. Synth-soaked club bangers abound, like he was splicing his late-90s Neptunes-produced nuclear bomb Superthug to the new millennium street-hop template. The Scarface-inspired documentary Cocaine Cowboys is immortalized in the cold-blooded and excellently executed tribute of the same name, complete with a Miami Vice-like soundscape and snippets from the classic doc. It might be Nore’s best song ever.

Capone appears on the corny Green Light, preceeding the disco-tastic, ecstasy-promoting anomaly Pop A Pill. Throw Em Under The Bus is the most hilarious thug threat of the year, featuring Jadakiss and Kurupt on cruise control. For better and for worse, Nore’s nonsensical couplets are back.
