At this juncture in the Oasis saga, the release of a double live album (out Tuesday) of fan favourites seems more like a parting gift than merely a holiday-season cash-in ploy.
In characteristic "biggest is best" fashion, they've chosen to represent themselves with their triumphant Wembley Stadium stand of this past summer. While they're no doubt chuffed to hear an adoring mob shouting their tunes, having 70,000 Oasis fans singing along out of time with Wonderwall, Stand By Me, Don't Look Back In Anger, etc doesn't really enhance the home listening experience.
Apart from Noel's whimpering stab at Neil Young's Hey Hey, My My, the only real surprise is the inclusion of the Uptight-jacking Step Out, which was shelved when Stevie Wonder's publishers threatened legal action. That Noel initially believed they could slip it by unnoticed is perfectly Oasis.
