Hymns And Hers is an ideal soundtrack for a Canadian movie set on the East Coast, particularly for the moment when the lead character, stumbling over giant boulders on the shore, has an intense internal revelation and pauses solemnly to look at the crashing waves.
With his swooping violin compositions, Oliver Schroer is an expert at the dramatic. The cathedral echoes of chamberesque vocals convey his spiritual side, and the plucking and harmonics on Holding Hands provide a nice contrast to some of the denser fiddling.
Oliver Schroer plays Trinity St. Paul’s Church June 5.
