Oneida Secret Wars (Three Gut Records) Rating: NnNN
Rating: NNNN
Now that the Liars have gone glitchy and Shy Child have surrendered to the prog dark side, Brooklyn’s Oneida are staking their claim as the krautrock kings of Williamsburg with Secret Wars. If the epic wankery of 2002’s Each One Teach One double was their Tago Mago, as they like to say, then the more focused song-oriented approach of Secret Wars makes it their Ege Bamyasi. The hyper-jerky jams still have an experimental edge – with tasteful use of electro blasts and some gong pounding – but Secret Wars is certainly Oneida’s most accessible work yet, which should touch off spontaneous spazz dancing in college dorms everywhere.
