PACO de LUCIA Cositas Buenas (Universal/ Verve) Rating: NNNN
Paco de Lucía is to flamenco what Hendrix is to rock or Whitman to poetry. He's notable for his ability to reach creative and emotive plateaus in an idiom that stresses conformity to tradition. Unlike De Lucía's crossover forays into jazz, this new disc stays true to flamenco. A few bulerías, a couple of rumbas and a tango for good measure quickly take you from this frozen wasteland to the cozier climes of Spain and South America. De Lucía's passionate guitar playing goes for the heartstrings.
Paco de Lucía plays Massey Hall Thursday (February 12).
