Why it's taken the Parkas four years to release their sophomore full-length effort is anyone's guess. It's not like they've been holed up writing a masterpiece (this disc isn't going to move mountains), but their music is appealing enough that waiting this long for a new release (besides a six-song EP) kinda sucked.
Like their last record, Put Your Head In The Lion's Mouth jumps from fist-pumping pop to slow, twangy folk ballads and covers everything in between. The best tracks are the louder ones, so starting with the sluggish Filthy Rich Kids might not've been a great choice, but they make up for it with Toronto Enough Tonight, a love/hate ode to the "centre of the universe."
The Parkas play the Horseshoe on Friday (July 27).
