Album reviews Music

Paul Thomson

Rating: NNNNN

Dapper drummer for the Glaswegian art school dandies, who prove You Could Have It So Much Better when they stylishly rock the rafters of Ricoh Coliseum Monday (April 17).

Milk ’n’ Cookies

“A reissue of a record originally released in 75 by a group of teenagers from Rhode Island who were marketed as a U.S. version of the Bay City Rollers but shot themselves in the foot when they dissed said Rollers. Good-time shang-a-lang glam rock, with one of the feyest singers I’ve heard since that guy out of EMF. ”

Crass – Christ The Album

“When we recorded our second LP in a commune in the Scottish countryside, we were trying to pull a Crass. We tend to publicly rail against ‘preachy’ bands, but Crass are an exception cuz they were right and they knew it. Perhaps anarcho-veggie punk isn’t everyone’s cuppa tea – I’ve cleared dance floors in 20 seconds flat by dropping Do They Owe Us A Living?”

Sparks – Hello Young Lovers

“After 30 years in the business, the Mael brothers show no signs of waning. I haven’t had the chance to see them play this live (which they do, in its entirety), but apparently it’s like bringing a bit of theatre to a rock ‘n’ roll show. Next to the Fall, I’d say Sparks are my favourite band of all time.”
