PEELER

Rating: NNN

It pains me to admit it, but nu-metal wouldn’t be nearly as popular if it weren’t for Canada. Three Days Grace and Nickelback are two of the biggest bands peddling throaty vocals and mundane power chords to the masses, but other Canucks are also making headway, and Brantford’s Peeler are one of the more promising contenders. Led by Craig Peeling, the band’s almost mastered the heavy chorus, the heartfelt slow song and the vocal growl. While there’s nothing that interesting here, and The Man I Used To Be, with its repetitive chorus, is pretty grating, Peeling’s making all the right first moves on his band’s debut. Give them a few years and Peeler could become Canada’s next big nu-metal thing.

Peeler hit the Horseshoe Tuesday (January 16).
