Peeping Tom

Former Mr. Bungle and Faith No More singer Mike Patton is a lucky man — his fans are so loyal that if he recorded himself pissing in a bathtub, they’d consider it genius. He’s hoping he’ll receive the same charitable treatment for his new electro-pop project Peeping Tom, the latest in a seemingly endless list of increasingly mundane jaunts. Peeping Tom was originally rumoured to be a mainstreamish pop collaboration. The disc is hampered by a concept that’s become less relevant over time and by Patton’s limited creative scope as a songwriter. The beats are tired and dated, and he’s a bit of a one-trick pony in terms of vocal arrangements. Guest performers like Kool Keith, Massive Attack, Bebel Gilberto and Norah Jones can barely disguise what Peeping Tom truly is, a floundering mess that bores you to tears.

Peeping Tom hits the Kool Haus Wednesday (August 9).
