Deep in the heart of Pink lurks a Real MusicianTM who longs to be taken seriously. That tiny wannabe virtuoso's spent years being stifled by the pop-star-producing muscle of Linda Perry and Tim Armstrong, but with I'm Not Dead, Alecia Moore gets her wish at least partly granted. There are still a handful of bids for top-40 club rotation, but only two have the potential to be Get The Party Started-style breakouts: the squelchy beat-driven slimeball fuck-you U + Ur Hand and the Mike Elizondo-tweaked I Got Money Now. Another third of the disc features Pink's trademark teen angst anthems, though now that she's married, it's time to let go of adolescent trauma. When not attempting to be Kelly Clarkson, the girl musters a strong, husky purr à la Joan Osborne, which she showcases here in a trio of well-crafted downtempo strummers: the Indigo Girls political collabo Dear Mr. President, heartbreak ballad The One That Got Away and the beautifully weathered I Have Seen The Rain, featuring Pink's dad, who wrote the track in Vietnam. Surprisingly impressive.
