For the last few months, the chatter surrounding Montreal's newest buzz band, Plants and Animals, has been growing with each live show. As on many first EPs, the great moments here are balanced by novice mistakes. Their Radiohead-meets-Beatles-meets-jam-band aesthetic is appealing, for sure. It's infectious, complex and soothing, but two wandering songs over seven minutes long means they have a bit of a focus problem.
It's a valiant first effort, but let's see what else they have in store before crowning them Canada's next indie kings.
Plants and Animals play Lee's Palace tomorrow night (November 16) .
