Dateline: PODville, USA. Feelings of shock and disappointment are thick in the air in this small rap-metal community that founding born-again fathers, the band P.O.D., have presided over since hitting the big time in the mid-90s with forgettable hits like Boom and Youth Of The Nation. The problem for many here in this otherwise bland place is that they’ve just learned that P.O.D.’s new album sounds exactly like all their other ones. Moreover, to the chagrin of long-time residents, all the songs on Testify sound exactly alike. Local businessman Fred D. had this to say: “Well, heck, I dunno (sighs). I mean, sure, I like the way they mix the metal with the rap and reggae and all that. But, dang it, I sure as hell didn’t move my family here to be closer to a band who couldn’t write an interesting tune if their lives depended on it.” Local officials are expecting a mass exodus from PODville, since many residents have been quoted as saying they’re tired of really shitty music.
